Now, romantic love isn’t the only type of love that’s out there. There’s the love of friends, family, pets, and of chocolate. But one of the first loves most people experience is parental love. The best book in this category, one I was obsessed with as a child and makes me cry as an adult, is Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. It follows a mom who sings a lullaby to her son, following the family from the boy’s infancy to adulthood.

Speaking of a love of food, there’s Dragons Love Tacos. A charming book about a boy and his dog who throw a taco party, clearly the best kind of party, for dragons. Some fun spicy taco related shenanigans ensue. Which, to be fair, if I were a dragon I could eat significantly more tacos.

With middle grade books, we start to dip our toes into the romantic love genre. One good example of this is Ella Enchanted by Gail Levine. This Cinderella retelling follows Ella who is trying to break the curse of obedience placed on her as a baby while falling in love with the dashing prince, Char. If you’ve seen the movie from 2004, just toss away any of your favorite expectations because the two are competently different.

This next book is a beautiful blend of romantic love, self love, and familial love. The Prince And The Dressmaker by Jen Wang is a graphic novel about a prince who loves dresses and his incredibly talented seamstress. Without spoiling any of the absolutely heartwarming parts of this book, I’ll just say that the big final moment will make your heart grow at least two sizes.

This is one of my favorite genres of all time. The romances manage to be sweet while diving into complex motivations, thoughts, and feelings. There is usually very minimal spice, if any. But the stakes can be just as heavy as an adult romance. For The Wolf by Hannah Whitten is a Red Riding Hood retelling that incorporates aspects of other fairy tales such as Beauty And The Beast to create a compelling story about a princess sacrificed to the woods and the wolf within to save her kingdom. But the wolf isn’t just a wolf. He’s a man who might not be such a villain after all.

For a more contemporary young adult romance, I would recommend Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. This book follows a boy named Simon who is having an anonymous romantic email exchange with another boy when someone discovers his secret and begins to blackmail him. Full of humor and teen angst as well as strong friendships and an adorable romance, this book is a must read.

Cherry is hoping for a toe-curling one night stand with the sexy stranger in the office. But after getting caught… um… becoming acquainted with each other… in an alleyway by the paparazzi, she’s thrust into a fake relationship with Prince Ruben, the aforementioned sexy stranger. Talia Hibbert is a genius, and she sure doesn’t disappoint in this magnificent book. Cherry is a bold and relatable heroine while Ruben has a heart as impressive as his… um… abs.

Dark romance is a complicated genre that is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. These romances you definitely might want to read those trigger warnings.

The late nights and forced proximity cause the two to become… close. A charming romance with two complex leads, this romance doesn’t disappoint.

This series is so good. A great paranormal romantic suspense with a great cast of characters, both living and dead, plenty of twists, and a great romantic that thread through it all.

I will never stop talking about how much I most ardently adore this book. The romance is a classic. Both leads exhibit both pride and prejudice in their dealings with each other. It is a great exploration of the period and helps brings a better understanding of the regency era as a whole.
