It is no secret that I love science fiction and science fiction romance. I blame Mass Effect, the video game series, specifically Garrus who is a raptor-esque alien with one of the best romance arches in the series. This is probably why I can completely empathise with the female leads in this series. They hear about an interplanetary, interspecies matchmaking service with a near 100% percent rate, and they ask where to sign up. Whereas other people might have a few more questions.
This may be my sociology degree coming out, but the cultural aspects of this series are beyond fascinating. Each of our female leads has to learn and adapt to a new culture and struggle to find the balance between respecting the culture they are marrying into while not losing their own culture.
A key example of this is one character’s agreement to wear limited clothing instead of wandering around naked and covered in paint.
The world building in this series is one of the best I’ve seen in any within the genre. Not only that, but the agency only pairs their clients with compatible species so there is plenty of spice to go around.
I absolutely devoured this entire series. There is a big effort to have good communication between the two leads, at least partially due to, often vast, cultural differences. Because they know nothing about each other and each other’s life, they have communication issues that they must struggle to overcome. But not to worry because the romances are sweet with happy ever afters guaranteed.
