Part Of Your World

One of my favorite things is fairytale retellings. Princess and the Pea, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, the Twelve Dancing Princesses, Pinocchio. It doesn’t matter which fairytale it is; I love them all. Which is why I absolutely had to read this book. I cannot even look at the cover without singing the song. It’s been on loop in my head for days. Send help.

Main character is reminiscent of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. She is a successful thirty-seven year old doctor. But she has enough flaws and insecurities to make her feel real and relatable (i.e. communication issues which just fits perfectly into the Little Mermaid vibe).

Not only that, but her love interest is twenty-eight. That’s right. We have an age gap romance with an older female lead.

That’s not all. We also have…

A Cinderella level losing of the shoe

Baby goats in pyjamas

Small town/ big city romance

Disapproving father who is scarier than King Triton

This book also deals with some difficult topics like emotional, psychological, and physical abuse. Therapy is emphasized as being an important part of realizing that the behavior is not okay. It also talks about empowering women by giving them the tools to be able to leave the relationship. I honestly think this book has some of the best conversations surrounding abuse that I have ever read.
