My little brother and I both watched iCarly. It was one of those shows that we could both consistently agree to watch, which was not always a guarantee. Honestly, we could agree to watch most of the shows on Nickelodeon but trying to watch Hannah Montana brought its own battles.

If you haven’t heard about this book, it is a memoir by Jennette McCurdy who is most well-known for playing Sam, the comedic best friend on iCarly. But her story is so much more than that.

This is a gut-wrenching, no punches pulled account of abuse and child stardom. At times, it can be hard to read because of what the author went through, but she manages to maintain a level of charm and humor throughout it all.

It shouldn’t surprise me at this point when yet another story comes out about someone abusing their position of power to harm others.

Shining a spotlight on those that do this is always a good thing. Bringing awareness to the problems in the industry can, hopefully, prevent these kinds of things from happening in the future.
