There are not enough words to adequately describe this book and how it left me feeling afterwards. It starts off as a young adult realistic fantasy and then when you get to the end, it shifts and leaves you completely emotionally devastated.
The main character is a teenage boy named Alex who is a wee bit dumb and not good at talking about his thoughts and feelings. Probably because he is a realistic teenage boy. There are so many issues in this book that could have been resolved if he was more emotionally mature, especially when dealing with his girlfriend and his brother.
The element of being able to see the future when touching things adds a nice level of fantasy. The interpersonal relationships between Alex and his brother Isaiah, their aunt, and Alex’s girlfriend are all beautifully done. There is an added element of mystery as the brothers try to discover the source of the power.
This book takes you on an adventure where you consider the moral implications of being able to see the future. What if you can’t change it? What if you can? Do you have an obligation to try?
And oh the end of this book. On reread, it makes sense, and you can see the foreshadowing. On a first read, however, it hits you out of nowhere and leaves you reeling.
You should definitely read this book. Click the link below or visit your local library.
