Sometimes you read a book and find yourself hating all the characters. And sometimes this causes you to put down the book in frustration. Other times, it feels like rubber necking on a highway to see the fender bender that has caused a traffic jam for miles in either direction. You know you shouldn’t stare because that’s part of the reason you and everyone else will be late to work. But you can’t help it. You stare anyway. That’s kinda what this book is like.

Every narrator is unreliable. None of them would know the truth if it hit them in the face. But this author is smart. She manages to do all of this in a way that does not insult the reader. At no point do you, as the reader, feel like an idiot for not figuring out the many twists and turns. And boy are there a lot of twists and turns.

The kids in this book, though, are absolutely precious. Miles and Nicky, the sons of Stephanie and Emily, have the most wholesome of friendships, so close they are practically brothers. They sound like the cutest little boys, not only because they do not destroy things or hit people. Beware that they may contribute to a case of baby fever.
