The House Witch: A Positive Perspective

Gosh, I absolutely adore fall. The leaves changing, being able to finally wear my ungodly collection of sweaters, and being able to easily find any product manageable pumpkin themed. Want pumpkin flavored jello or chocolate? Want a pumpkin pillow or a pumpkin shaped rug? The sky is apparently the limit.

Most of the story is focused on the home. Reading about the food will absolutely make you hungry. I don’t think I’ve ever been inspired to cook so much while reading. I have actually put the book down several times to make meals for my own family. Roast potatoes, stews, cheesy scrambled eggs, egg in the basket, and many more foods have made their way onto the table after the hunger strikes.

But it’s the relationships with all of the characters are the meat and potatoes, if you will, of this story. My absolute favorite character is Kracken. He’s Finn’s black kitten familiar who excels at comforting crying children and committing arson. Surely my dog would commit arson for me, right?

That’s the beauty of a cozy fantasy. You are allowed to just feel what the characters are feeling without having to worry about whether any of them are going to be stabbed and murdered. Although there is some stabbing that occurs, it is mild and resolved quickly. And there’s the threat to break both of Finn’s legs, but his mom’s a healer so it’ll all be okay.

This series tackles many issues: discrimination, prejudice, abuse, recovery from trauma, to name a few. It dives deep into the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of its characters. All in an effort to maintain a happy and safe home for all of them. And our house witch, Finn is the glue that holds them all together.

Check this one out (the audiobook in particular is a lot of fun)! And, as of the writing of this post, it’s available on Kindle Unlimited.
