So this might be the most negative review you ever read from me.

What I mean by that is this book has taught me that dark romance is not my favorite genre. I have read some strange and unusual romances in my day. I’ve even read some dark romance in the past and thought I was prepared- despite the trigger warnings listed in the front of the book.

This is definitely a series you want to read the trigger warnings for. And it is definitely not for everyone. But the story is gripping and somehow manages to be terrifying and sexy all at the same time.

The characters were interesting. I don’t think there was a single character without an element of gray to them. None of the main characters were strictly good people or strictly bad people.

They all had dimensions.

Speaking of dimensions, like on the astral plane level of dimensions, my absolute favorite character was Sybil.

There is just something about a girl willing to have orgies with her ghost boyfriends on the kitchen table. It just makes you want to be her friend, to knock before entering a room, and to invest in noise-canceling headphones.

Just because a book is not your favorite does not mean there are not positive things to be found in it. It can still teach you about yourself or about an aspect of the world or can just be fun.
