So I was going to say that I have the immune system of a rock because it does not have an immune system, but have you ever seen a rock ever do anything except thrive? I think not. The rock is just living its best life. Maybe it will become a gravel driveway. Maybe it will be used in a homicide. The rock does not know. The rock does not care.
All of this to say that I am sick, yet again, so it is romance novel time. I went to the Libby app and searched for mature fantasy romance available now and found this gem that’s described as “Neon Gods meets Fifty Shades.” Color me intrigued.
The Dark King by Gina L. Maxwell is a lot of fun. We have the king of the Dark Fae, Caiden, who is trapped in our world in the City of Sin itself. Our female protagonist, Bryn- a seemingly normal Midwestern girl, finds herself drawn to Caiden. He is generally considered a grumpy-gills, but with Bryn he is a softer and better version of himself. Which is a trope I absolutely adore. Bryn is not afraid to give him all of the sass which his friends and family absolutely appreciate.
Not only that, but there is none of the repetition of genitalia words that can be grating in a romance. (Surely I am not the only one that gets distracted by this).
If you are in the mood for a fun and steamy fantasy romance, definitely check this one out.
