Love On The Brain

Surly dark haired man? Check. Quirky genius woman? Check. Inability to communicate with each other like adults? Also check.

Communication is a problem in a lot of relationships. It reminds me of when you are watching a cooking show. You are judging the chefs for not adding the right amount of gelatin to the pudding for it to set while you are sitting on your couch eating takeout because you burned the chicken nuggets. It’s the same thing when reading a romance novel where the characters do not communicate with each other effectively. You are shaking your head from your couch while mentally avoiding all the times you expected your partner to read your mind.

All of Ali Hazelwood’s books are fun. Whenever I pick up one of her novels, I know that I am going to enjoy it. Although they are romance novels and the relationship is what ultimately drives the story forward, all the women in her stories are intelligent three-dimensional people. They all work in STEM fields and have subplots related to women in STEM. One of the subplots in this book is discrimination in the workplace, especially in male-dominated fields.

I also manage to learn something about science every time I read one of Hazelwood’s books.
